I made this slow cooker pulled pork for my sister’s baby shower a week ago and four guests told me it’s the best pulled pork they’ve ever had. Everyone asked for the recipe and I was almost embarrassed to give it out. It’s 3 ingredients (if you don’t count the pork) and takes no effort.
With that kind of compliment, I couldn’t not share the recipe!
- 1 Can of Ginger ale
- 1 Large Onion
- Pork Shoulder
- Original Bulls-eye BBQ Sauce
Seriously, that’s it!

It’s a perfect crowd-pleasing recipe for parties (I double the recipe), a big family dinner or an easy meal prep for the week. It also freezes well and makes for a delicious time-friendly meal.
The best ways to pair pulled pork:
- Sandwiches – with coleslaw & fresh buns
- On top of a fresh salad (personal favourite: iceberg lettuce, cabbage, mandarin oranges, feta, sunflower seeds & pulled pork)
- BBQ pulled pork pizza
Place your pork in the slow cooker. Cut the onion into strips. Put the onion in and cover with ginger ale.
Slow cook on low for 12-15 hours (I usually do overnight). My favourite step: walk away.
Remove the pork and strain all the juice out. Place pork back in slow cooker with the onions. Add full container of BBQ sauce and shred the meat with 2 forks (it will be ridiculously tender). Keep on low for 1-4 hours and then put on “keep warm” setting of your slow cooker until you’re ready to serve.
Pulled pork is the most effortless, inexpensive and clearly crowd pleasing way to feed a group of people.
For parties, I always double the recipe. In Canada, 2 pork shoulders are $17.99 and a pack of 2 Bullseye BBQ sauces are $5.99 at Costco.
I highly recommend investing in a quality slow cooker like the Kitchenaid Architect. I use my slow cooker on a weekly basis and love that this has a special “keep warm” setting most don’t. It makes sure nothing is ever over cooked!
